Owen's age

Lilypie First Birthday tickers

4 Months Old!

Can you believe I am 4 months old already!!!! I am growing so fast! I had my 4 month check up and I am perfect in every way - at least that is what my parents say. I weight 16lb (75%) and I am 26.5" tall (97%). I pretty much eat all day long and I am a rock star when it comes to sleeping. I sleep about 11 hours at night. Eating and sleeping aren't the only things I do well, I also love to play all day. I really like my baby exerciser. And anything that makes sounds, lights up or that I can put in my mouth are perfect. I still really like to stand up but I am working on sitting by my self. I roll both ways and move all around in my crib at night. I also talk a lot. I don't have any teeth yet but I don't need them yet anyway.

Multitasking

I, like most first time mothers, to be thought maternity leave would not only be a great time to bond with our new baby but I also thought (being the productive aka multi tasker that I am) I would be able to get all kinds of things accomplished that had been on my 'house to do list' while the baby was sleeping. I quickly learned that while babies do sleep all time, I had to sleep too. Or, he would only sleep for a few minutes. So the long and short of it is that I learned to take multitasking to a new level. Bobby and I laugh about one time in particular when I was nursing Owen, uploading pictures on my computer (probably of Owen) and playing fetch with Izzy. What can I say - I felt like wonder woman! (for any future mamas out there - don't mean to scare you with this, Owen is now on much more of a schedule and I can do important things like update my blog while he snoozes)

So, when I saw Owen the other day, I learned he might have my multitasking personality. I am including the video. Bobby is supporting him while he is 'standing' (one of his favorite activities - which he always takes very seriously and you can tell by the focused look on his face) in front of the mirror. Then the multi taking started - he began smiling, while looking in the mirror while standing! 3 activities all at once! Anyway, check it out.....

First beach trip - Michigan

Can you believe Owen has already been in 6 states!! Only 10 weeks old - what a traveler! He really is so flexible. We continued the White family tradition (over 27 years) and drove up to the little cottage on Lake Michigan. It is about a 12 hour drive from KC. We just took long breaks so Owen got lots of time out of his car seat and the rest of the time he slept. Even with Owen, we made great time. We met the Whites and Duggers at the little cottage. We ended up having beautiful weather - 75 and sunny on the beach. We kept both the babies under several umbrellas to protect that baby soft skin. The adults however had worshipped the sun! We took a ton of pictures and I have included more than usual but there were just too many good ones! Owen's little (BIG) personality continues to come out. He is smiles all the time and we are even hearing little giggles every now and then. He continues to grow and is already in 3-6 month outfits. Anyway, the pictures tell the stories better than I do, so check them out below.
It was such a great trip because the three of us were able to spend part of the week with the Horner and the other part of the week with the Whites. It was also the most time the 3 of us have spent together since Owen joined us. We feel so blessed!

Owen's neck is strong enough to be in the baby Bjorn and once we get him in it, he really likes it. I think he likes seeing everything that is going on.

4th of July

We had a wonderful 4th of July with the little guy. We kicked off the weekend with his first firework show with the entire Russell side of the family. Owen is always up for a party, probably because he is the center of attention and gets to be held the entire time by lots of nice women! He was held by Dodie (great grandmother) during the firework show and didn't cry once. He was awake and his eyes got really big with each loud boom. He is such a trooper. The next day we left for the lake and were able to celebrate the holiday weekend with the Horner family. We had great weather. Owen is a great traveler and seems to enjoy the movement of the car and watching all the colors go by through the windows. This weekend was when Owen started smile back at you. He has the greatest smile. More pictures of smiles to come. While at the lake he loved spending time with his grandparents, uncles, aunts and lots of friends! He still hasn't been on the boat yet, and I don't think that will happen for a little while. He does like the dock (again, I think it is the movement). I have includes some pictures below....

happy 4th of july!!!
just snoozing with my awesome parents

life guards izzy and kate are on duty - love swimming with us. Although I think they are confused as to why we are in the water, they seem to enjoy it. Kate especially takes of the life guard roll and swims laps around you. It is pretty funny!

Scout is also helping Jimmy navigate the lake with Kate following behind to make sure no one falls in.

all ready for the dock! (and no he hasn't been in the sun yet but at least he looks the part)

Happy Birthday Grandpa!

Fathers Day and Smiles

Owen, Izzy, Kate and I had lots of fun getting ready for Bob's first Father's Day! We were able to spend some time just the '5' of us on Sunday to celebrate! He is such a great father to Owen, Izzy and Kate and I feel so blessed to such a great hubby!
We also had a great time celebrating Father's Day with Grandpa Dude and Grandpa Horner! We are so lucky to have such great dad's to celebrate!
As far as this week goes, Owen has starting paying attention to some toys and can follow them with his eyes. He seems to respond best to the toys that make noise. He has also developed a very strong grip (so far I still have all my hair, necklaces and earrings but I think I should consider myself warned!) We are working on trying to get on some sort of schedule with play time, nursing and napping but the so far it is pretty random. He is starting to sleep about 6 hours at night which is great!!! We have learned that the pacifier is a blessing and a curse at the same time because it falls out when he is sleeping which wakes him up thus wakes us up. Another big change is that Owen has started putting weight on his legs and loves to 'stand up'. Of course we have to hold him under his arms but this is one is his favorite games. Everyone is amazing with how strong he is. He has starting making all kinds of facial expressions which have been hysterical to watch. And just today, he started smiling! Real smiles, not gas pain smiles. He is such a cute little guy! He is going to charm all the girls one day! Owen also meet all the nice folks at PBI (where Bobby works) and we hope to make it to IKON this week! Also, while shopping for father's day, grandpa dude found a camo onesie for Owen! I will post a picture soon! Overall a pretty busy and fun week! As always thanks so much for every one's support!
what a dad! happy fathers day! (check out my hat that matches my dads shirt!!)

so lucky to have such great grandparents and so close!
best friends???

my mom's new favorite outfit - so cute!

Back on the charts

Owen had his one month check up last week and he is back on the charts. (you might remember he was slightly off the charts when he was born due to his higher than average weight). Anyway, he weighed in at 11 lb 7 oz which is the 90% and was 23.25 inches long which is in the 97%. They didn't test his IQ but we are sure he is a genius baby! Anyway, Owen does have a little reflux which is pretty normal at this stage and should go away before too long. Owen is a pretty good sleeper. The longest he has gone is 6 hours but he is consistently going for about 4 hours. We did have one night of 30 minutes which was not fun but for the most part, he is a great sleeper. We have noticed that he is becoming much more alert. He is very observant and seems to enjoy looking around. We just wonder what in the world he is thinking.
I, on the other hand took one step back this week when we found out I have mastitis. It is a total bummer but since I have been on meds, I am starting to feel better. Back to more cheerful news - This weekend was Owen's first trip to Omaha. We had a great time visiting with Emily, Steve and Charlotte. Charlotte is 5 months older than Owen and is FULL of personality. She is truly the 'happiest baby on the block'. She is all smiles and loves to be part of the action. She is rolling over, sitting up and holding her own bottle. It is just a matter of time before she is crawling all over.
As for this week, we are just laying low while on the mend and looking forward to Bob's first fathers day.

4 weeks

Owen is now four weeks old! I can't believe how fast a month goes by. He is doing great and we are starting the get the hang of things. I really love being a mother and Bob is a natural when it comes to fatherhood. It is amazing watching them together. We have been amazed with how fast he seems to learn and seems to grow right before our eyes! He randomly will roll over when he is on his tummy to his back. His neck is getting stronger and he is starting to stretch his little legs out and put some weight on them. Fortunately, the weather has been nice so we have been going on little walks to Starbucks whenever we feel up to it. Other than that, Owen made his first trip to the lake and did really well. We didn't take him on the boat and probably won't for a while, but he did go to the dock in the morning with the dogs. He was right at home with the sound of the waves and the rocking of the dock. Of course, Izzy was right at home jumping off the dock to retrieve her 'bird' while Kate was Izzy's life guard, only going in the water after the real birds. It was so funny because some how caught a fish and brought it to us. Also this week, Emily and Charlotte came into KC. Emily's friend took some photos of the cousins. We are so excited to see how they turned out. Emily and Charlotte babysat Owen for my first night out. Bob took me to a Pink Martini concert. We had a great time and I loved being out of the house. But we were both excited to come back to see how Owen did. And of course he did great. Thanks Auntie Em! Also, here is my new favorite picture and some others from this week:
