Multitasking

I, like most first time mothers, to be thought maternity leave would not only be a great time to bond with our new baby but I also thought (being the productive aka multi tasker that I am) I would be able to get all kinds of things accomplished that had been on my 'house to do list' while the baby was sleeping. I quickly learned that while babies do sleep all time, I had to sleep too. Or, he would only sleep for a few minutes. So the long and short of it is that I learned to take multitasking to a new level. Bobby and I laugh about one time in particular when I was nursing Owen, uploading pictures on my computer (probably of Owen) and playing fetch with Izzy. What can I say - I felt like wonder woman! (for any future mamas out there - don't mean to scare you with this, Owen is now on much more of a schedule and I can do important things like update my blog while he snoozes)

So, when I saw Owen the other day, I learned he might have my multitasking personality. I am including the video. Bobby is supporting him while he is 'standing' (one of his favorite activities - which he always takes very seriously and you can tell by the focused look on his face) in front of the mirror. Then the multi taking started - he began smiling, while looking in the mirror while standing! 3 activities all at once! Anyway, check it out.....

First beach trip - Michigan

Can you believe Owen has already been in 6 states!! Only 10 weeks old - what a traveler! He really is so flexible. We continued the White family tradition (over 27 years) and drove up to the little cottage on Lake Michigan. It is about a 12 hour drive from KC. We just took long breaks so Owen got lots of time out of his car seat and the rest of the time he slept. Even with Owen, we made great time. We met the Whites and Duggers at the little cottage. We ended up having beautiful weather - 75 and sunny on the beach. We kept both the babies under several umbrellas to protect that baby soft skin. The adults however had worshipped the sun! We took a ton of pictures and I have included more than usual but there were just too many good ones! Owen's little (BIG) personality continues to come out. He is smiles all the time and we are even hearing little giggles every now and then. He continues to grow and is already in 3-6 month outfits. Anyway, the pictures tell the stories better than I do, so check them out below.
It was such a great trip because the three of us were able to spend part of the week with the Horner and the other part of the week with the Whites. It was also the most time the 3 of us have spent together since Owen joined us. We feel so blessed!

Owen's neck is strong enough to be in the baby Bjorn and once we get him in it, he really likes it. I think he likes seeing everything that is going on.

4th of July

We had a wonderful 4th of July with the little guy. We kicked off the weekend with his first firework show with the entire Russell side of the family. Owen is always up for a party, probably because he is the center of attention and gets to be held the entire time by lots of nice women! He was held by Dodie (great grandmother) during the firework show and didn't cry once. He was awake and his eyes got really big with each loud boom. He is such a trooper. The next day we left for the lake and were able to celebrate the holiday weekend with the Horner family. We had great weather. Owen is a great traveler and seems to enjoy the movement of the car and watching all the colors go by through the windows. This weekend was when Owen started smile back at you. He has the greatest smile. More pictures of smiles to come. While at the lake he loved spending time with his grandparents, uncles, aunts and lots of friends! He still hasn't been on the boat yet, and I don't think that will happen for a little while. He does like the dock (again, I think it is the movement). I have includes some pictures below....
first firework show
happy 4th of july!!!
just snoozing with my awesome parents

life guards izzy and kate are on duty - love swimming with us. Although I think they are confused as to why we are in the water, they seem to enjoy it. Kate especially takes of the life guard roll and swims laps around you. It is pretty funny!

Aunt Kakes (Kara) on a kayak ride with her navigator, Scout

Scout is also helping Jimmy navigate the lake with Kate following behind to make sure no one falls in.

double retrieve!

all ready for the dock! (and no he hasn't been in the sun yet but at least he looks the part)

Happy Birthday Grandpa!
